HMRC have announced that they are going to reverse (pun intended) their decision to class double cab pickup trucks as cars, instead of vans.

Lots of business owners chose to own double cab pickup trucks for both personal and business use due to their ability to carry large loads, with the benefit of a nicer interior compared to vans. They also benefitted from large tax savings, with vans not being subject to the same tax rules as cars, where the amount of tax is based on the vehicle’s CO2 emissions.

The change would have seen pickup owners get hit with a steep increase on their car tax, but in an announcement on the 19th of February, HMRC went back on their decision, meaning double cab pickup trucks will remain under the same tax rules as vans and taxed accordingly.
